Custom 2 oz Tins Made for What You Pour, Press, or Pack

A candle maker wants a 2 oz candle tin that burns clean and still looks like part of the full-size collection. A skincare brand needs a lip balm or salve tin that opens easily and survives a handbag.

A spice shop wants a sample size tin that customers can stack, carry, and refill. All three are buying 2 oz tins, but the right tin for each one is different. A small metal tin only works when it's built around your product, so that's where we start.

Tell us what goes inside, how much of it, and where it sells: online, in a shop, at a market, or as a gift. We'll recommend the shape, depth, lid, and metal; size the print to the space you actually have on the lid and body; and send a free 3D mockup before anything goes into production.

Each of the details of your tin packaging will be as per your choice, and we will assist you every step of the way.

Which 2 oz Tin Style Fits Your Product?

"2 oz" describes volume, not shape. The same capacity comes as a wide, flat tin or a narrow, deep one, and that choice changes how your product looks, pours, and gets used.

How Much a 2 oz Tin Really Holds

A 2 oz tin holds about 2 fluid ounces to the edge, but you'll rarely fill it that far because some clearance space is a must add. Two things change the real fill:

  • Candles need headspace. A typical deep 2 oz candle tin holds about 1.5 oz of wax by weight to the fill line, leaving room for the wick and a clean burn.

  • Screw tops need a clean rim. On a shallow 2 oz tin, product sitting above the rim stops the lid from threading. Leave a small gap below the top edge.

If you're matching an existing product weight on your label, ask for a physical sample and test your exact fill before the full order.

Screw Top, Twist Top, or Slip Lid?

The lid decides how your customer opens the tin and how well it travels.

  • 2 oz screw top tins: also known as a twist top tin in 2 ounce size. The threaded lid stays closed in bags and in the mail, which makes it the usual choice for balms, salves, and spices.

  • Slip lids: press on and lift off with no twisting. They're quick for candles, mints, and samples that stay on a shelf.

  • Window lids: a clear top shows off a colorful balm, candy, or tea without opening the tin.

For a more secure closure and to make your 2 oz tin leakproof, airtight, and tamper evident, add a shrink band around the lid.

Steel or Aluminum 2 oz Tins?

Most 2 oz metal tins are tinplate steel; aluminum is the lighter alternative. Hence, both are a suitable choice for a 2 oz tin; the choice depends on your product and its usage.

  • Tinplate steel is rigid, holds its shape, and takes print well. It's the classic silver, gold, or black tin. Keep it away from water-based products, because moisture can cause rust. However, with high quality materials, you can expect your tin to last for years.

  • Aluminum 2 oz tins weigh less, which helps on shipping costs, and they don't rust. They're softer, so they can dent if dropped.

For candles and solid balms, steel is the standard pick. For travel products or anything that may meet humidity, aluminum is worth a look.

Customize Every Part of Your 2 oz Tins

A plain tin with a custom printed sticker gets the job done, but it looks like everyone else's. Custom 2 oz tins carry your design on the metal itself, so the tin looks finished on a shelf and in photos.

Printing

Print your logo, scent name, or full artwork directly on the lid, the body, or both. A shallow 2 oz lid gives you roughly 2 inches of round space, so we'll help you size text so it's still readable. Prefer labels for frequent recipe or scent changes? We can leave the body plain and print only the lid.

Finishes

Choose silver, gold, or black, then add gloss or matte varnish. An embossed logo on the lid adds a raised feel customers notice the moment they pick it up, with no extra ink.

Lids

Pick screw, slip, or window lids to match how your product is used. Screw tops for anything that travels, slip lids for shelf items, and windows when the product itself is the selling point.

Add-ons

Shrink bands for tamper evidence, printed sleeves or outer boxes for gift sets, and inserts that hold several 2 oz tins in a sampler box.

What to Put in a 2 oz Tin and What to Avoid

There are some careful considerations that make your 2 oz tin a success for your branding campaigns. You cannot put just anything in a tin and expect it to work well.

2 oz tins for cosmetics

Ideal for solid products: lip balm, salves, beard balm, solid perfume, lotion bars, and shave soap. You can also use 2 oz tins for creams or lipsticks or even for different colored eyeshadows. Compact packaging for makeup products is always a good idea for makeup on-the-go purposes.

2 oz tins for candles

Great for travel candles, samplers, and gift-set minis in soy, coconut, or paraffin wax. Some fragrance oils, especially cinnamon, citrus, and vanilla notes at high loads, can discolor a tin's inner coating, so test your blend first.

2 oz tins for spices

A good size for sample flavors, spice blends, and loose tea. Because tins aren't airtight, they suit dry goods that sell within a few months. Add a shrink band to keep them sealed until the first opening, and ask us for a food-contact-safe interior.
